HOW WE MET (Teejay)

So one month into my stay in America, we (my family) heard a father and her two daughters (one of them happened to be Tolu) talking in Yoruba in front of an African store. We got excited because we finally found people that we will able to relate with. We approached them, introduced ourselves and they were kind enough to invite us over to their house. Since that day both families became family friends and visited each other a lot. As a result, I was friend-zoned for a long time, even becoming her relationship counselor during other relationships. But as a sharp man, I waited patiently for the other guys to mess up and made my move at the right time. The rest, well you can read that when I publish my book😀

February 2008

WHO MADE THE FIRST MOVE (By Tolu)

Since TeeJay and I were around the same age, we quickly became good friends after our families met. TJ became my personal adviser and would often counsel me about literally everything, but mostly about guys..  During one of our talks, I asked him if he liked anyone and he told me that he had a crush on someone and that His first (and only) girlfriend would become his wife, I laughed it off.  Four years into the friendship in 2008, we attended the same University. During one of our relationship talks, I told him I was done with guys and was no longer getting into relationships. His response was "Let me know when you're ready to start dating again"... Shortly after this, he called me to the cafeteria and confessed that he's had a crush on me since we met. At first, I thought it was so awkward that someone that I considered to be almost like family actually had those kinds of feelings towards me.  I didn't give him any response then and later came up with an excuse that my dad or my sister said I couldn't date him or something random like that Lol. After weeks of completely avoiding him, I slowly started wrapping my head around the idea of maybe, just maybe I could give him a chance.  In February of 2008, the love story began...

THE FAKE PROPOSAL(S)

I can't count the number of times Teejay asked if I will marry him with my response always being 'why aren't you down on one knee' cuz I knew he was just joking. There was actually a time while we were on a short vacation to Virginia Beach with my sister and a few close friends when he playfully got down on one knee, (everyone knew how playful TeeJay could be so they all played along). Knowing he was no longer afraid to get on his knee, my response changed to 'where is the ring' and so next time he asked if I will marry him, he offered an onion ring haha. I was never bothered at all by all those "fake proposals" because I knew for sure that one day he would have to do it for real and so I just left him alone to practice...

ANOTHER FAKE PROPOSAL?

February 2016, the week before Super Bowl, TeeJay had asked if I could come home to Rhode Island from school and watch Superbowl with him and some of our friends.  I got home that weekend and went to my home church (RCCG that we both attend). After church ended, I went outside and as I was about to jump into my car and head out, I spotted my friend Dele Oyedepo (a photographer) taking pictures with his professional camera.  I quickly ran over to get my picture taken (Yes, I love taking pictures, besides, I needed a new profile pic:)!  After a few solo shots, I saw TJ come towards where we were having our little photo shoot and signaled for him to come get in the picture with me.  After the first 3-5 shots, TeeJay asked if I wanted to try a different pose - He wanted to pose as if he was proposing to me, in Public!!!   I immediately tried to stop him  and literally pulled him up as he was about going on one knee (Pic on Right)

Whoa, he has a ring!!!
February 2016

I SCREAMED YES!!!

In my mind I was trying to stop him from another fake practice proposing to me because people around us would think he was proposing for real, I didn't want any unnecessary attention.  Besides, there was snow on ground, I didn't want him to get his nice outfit ruined by another one of his "fake practice proposals", or so I thought... until I saw him go down on his knee again, this time, he pulled out a box from his jacket, opened it and asked if I would be his wife... I guess he tried to say everything he had rehearsed but I was just laughing and screaming.  I was laughing because this whole time that I thought everyone was randomly taking photos, they were all acting and it was all planned. I was screaming in excitement that my teenage lover was asking if I would spend the rest of my life with him - I screamed Yesss!!!

TeeJay indeed stayed true to his statement from 12 years ago that his first and only girlfriend would become his wife <3

Jessica Olayanju - Maid of Honor

I recall meeting Tolu at URI back in summer of 2006, where we stayed in the same hall.  She was this smart, skinny, sassy girl...lets be real, she still is. She didn't realize I was Nigerian at first until I told her my name is Adejoke. Hahaha. Long story short, she was so enamored by yours truly and just couldn't stay away from me since then. 11 years later and she still just can't get rid of me. LOL. On a serious note, I was there from day 1 of ToluTope and I am incredibly excited for this big step in their relationship. May God bless their upcoming union. So proud of you my Dongsaeng ;-).

It was a hot summer day when I met the lovely lady Adewusi. I had just graduated from college and was working at the NIH in Research Triangle Park in North Carolina (NC). I was new to the area and didn’t know anybody. As all people who go to Redeem churches do, I decided to look up the closest one in my area. Anyways cut the long story short somehow, someway Kemi introduced me to the lovely lady. She called me immediately rambling on. You would think that she had met me in a different life and we had been friends forever. She was super friendly and so overly nice (lol). I remember thinking to myself how can someone be so energetically nice and outgoing to someone they never met before (hahaha). Then again, Tolu is one of the best of our kind. It took me a few seconds to warm up to her but let’s just say once I did, there was no going back. Throughout my summer in NC we hung out after work, travelled to Atlanta together and even became roommates for a little while.  Even after my time in NC, we remained very good friends, sharing our dreams and plans for the future and making each other laugh. I am glad to call Tolu my friend and Mr. Teejay is definitely super lucky to have found a lady that is God fearing, caring, loving, friendly, and kind. I pray that as you embark on the journey of LIFE together, God will ordain your steps and perfect all that concerns the two of you. Thank you for choosing me as one of your maidens Tolu, I can’t wait to celebrate with you and your mister.

Faith and I met at the beginning of our time as students in UConn School of Dental Medicine. I am so thankful that I have been fortunate enough to have Faith as my classmate because now she is practically a sister to me. Our friendship has been one of the best things that has happened in my life during the last three years of dental school and I couldn’t have made it this far without all of her support and positive attitude. Faith never fails to help me put a banana (i.e. smile) on my face and find the good in things. Through the rollercoaster ride of dental school and life, Faith is always there for me. She is truly a blessing and a forever friend. I can’t wait to see where life takes her and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of her and TJ’s special day.

Laide Ajiboye - Bridesmaid

I met Tolu because her family was actually one of the first families my family met when we first moved to America. With that said, I have basically known her my whole life and she has become like a sister to me. Since I’m taller than her, she is more like a small big sister lol! Now that she is marrying Tj who happens to be my brother, I guess it was all meant to be. The funny thing is that being young nobody ever told me anything, so it took me a while to actually figure out that they were dating. Although I was initially kept out of the loop, I still approve!  My brother is lucky to have her because not only is she  ambitious, selfless, so smart, she makes him a better man! To think if our families were not both standing in front of Mr.Johnson’s store these relationships would have never formed. Welcome to the family officially Tolu!

TJ is such an amazing, humble, and down to earth guy. It has been a blessing to see you grow from baggy jeans, hat tilted to the side, and baggy sweaters to being a Doctor of Pharmacy. This is truly is a testament to how hard working and dedicated you are. A friend I can always count on, a man after God's heart, and the mumu to Faith Ade's button :). I am so excited and I can't wait to turn up with you guys!

Dr. Olaolu Olabintan

Once upon a time in a land far away there live a young boy in a small town called ondo in Nigeria. This young boy happens to be the groom, TJ. We met in secondary school. He had recently joined my school, Hallmark secondary school ondo in 2002 and we happen to be roommates. Although he was new to the school, he was quite a confident and sociable lad form the onset. He was (is) also intelligent and respectable lad, which were the qualities that drew me closer to him (ps, I am not a snub). We became good friends during my 2 years in hallmark, stayed in touch when we both flew the nest and left Nigeria. Visited each other in our various countries (England and America) and recently went on holiday to Italy together. Proud of him to be marrying an amazing girl in Tolu, and I am sure the good qualities mentioned earlier, coupled with his love for God will stand him in good stead in becoming an amazing husband and father

I've had the privilege of knowing TJ since high school. I've gotten to compete with and against you for many years. But the greatest honor of all is that I've had a the opportunity to watch you grow from our URI days to the man that you are today. It's been a long, winding, and interesting ride. I am thankful for what God has done in your life and what he continues to do for you. You are a leader of men, an honest and straight shooter and I appreciate all our late night banters! Now that you are entering the next phase of your life... I know you are looking forward to that good food tolu cooks! Lol I wish you well. With prayer, with love and with Gods guidance. As you will be standing by my side when I say I do, I look forward to standing by your side as you say I do too! (In the same year!!!) Live-love-Laugh.

Mr. Jr. (Naija Prince) Adewusi

Most of you guys might know but for the ones who don't I'm Junior, the beautiful brides younger brother though when we are together people think I'm the older one. When I first met Tj it was through our families, him and my sister Tolu got closer and went to the same college. I remember one weekend I went to visit my sister at URI and I got to hangout with Tj and his friends and they all took my to my first college party. From that day on, I knew Tj was a good/cool guy cause the way he was acting at the party lol. Tj is an older brother that's been there for me for years, and we've been playing soccer together for a long time now. He's a great guy, I wish him and my sister the best and all I see for them together is a bright future... Love y'all

Mr. Nas (Mr. PhD) Abayomi

I've always said Tolu deserves a wonderful successful loving husband. Thank goodness TJ proposed to her before she found one. I'd like to take the opportunity to say we're going to miss you Dr. Oluwa TeeJay, Epa ski. Knowing TJ has been a blessing and of course some accent induced problems. He's always been a mentor and an educator in all aspect of life. And all of a sudden, the drug lord himself has found his drug queen. I wish you luck and good tidings and may all your ups and downs be in the bedroom. And pray God continues to bless you and your fiancé in all that you guys lay your hands on.

Mr. Tolu (Folks) Adeosun

The 1st time I met Dr TJ, I was still in College and lived in Massachusetts. It was a couple weeks before his sister's wedding and I came with his friend Dipo to his place. It was definitely awkward because I was trying to figure out who this brother was. A couple years later I moved to Providence for work and it became real...we went to church together and my 1st impression about him was "this guy is feisty" especially when trying to prove a point or share his views with Bro Lekan Akinsete about a particular topic or issue. It was always a movie scene after service. Fast-forward to 5+ years later, he has turned out to be one of the most amazing dude I've ever known. His drive for greatness, love for God and genuine passion towards humanity makes him an exceptional individual. He's not just a best friend...he's a brother to me and I trust that he'd make an outstanding husband to Tolu. They're both very special to me because I have strong ties to both of them individually. Wishing them the very best as they start a journey of a life time. Much love. Cheers!
